Breast Cancer

There are many different types of treatment for breast cancer. Your treatment will depend on you and your cancer.

There are a number of treatment options depending on the type and stage of your breast cancer and your treatment preferences.

This includes:

Surgery

Surgery can have two different focuses depending on your individual cancer: to try and conserve the breast tissue such as a lumpectomy (removal of the lump within the breast) or a mastectomy (removal of the entire breast). To find out if the breast cancer has spread to lymph nodes in your underarm and stage (extent) of your cancer, one or more of these lymph nodes will be removed and looked at under the microscope. They may be removed either as part of your breast cancer surgery or as a separate operation.1

Hormone therapy

Hormone therapy targets cancer cells within the body through interfering with normal female hormones.2 Hormone therapy may not be suitable for everyone, depending on cancer stage and your individual situation.2
